Meet Our FitnessLab CrossFit Coaches

Josh Amezquita

I’ve been lifting and incorporating various types of fitness into my life since high school.  I was a competitive motocross racer for several years and being physically fit and strong made me a better rider.  Fitness and strength have been extremely important to me as well in my career as a first responder. I have done crossfit based workouts while being a Firefighter/Paramedic for the past 5 years. I started going to a Crossfit “box” in early 2014. My father-in-law got me to try an open workout (14.2), the competition peaked my interest and I have been doing it since. Like many others, Crossfit has brought that level of competition back to my life. My goals with Fitness Lab, are to continue to grow and learn as a coach and an athlete. Community and fitness are very important to me and I feel I can bring a unique dynamic to the crossfit world from my personal and professional experiences. I began coaching in 2012 and have loved it ever since; I particularly enjoy helping people out with gymnastics movements and mobility issues. I am currently perusing my Master’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation at Texas State. I found Crossfit in late 2009 while stationed in San Diego, CA where I was a Rescue Swimmer in the United States Navy.  Fitness was a vital component of my job and I was looking for something to help me excel.  I developed a passion for Crossfit nearly immediately. I have been fortunate to travel around the world visiting boxes in Dubai, Bahrain, Turkey, Greece, and Spain. This exposure has helped me hone my coaching skills and learn cues from some of the best coaches on the planet.  I have been coaching since 2012 and have coached at gyms in California, Florida and Texas.   In addition to coaching at FitnessLab CrossFit, I’m currently pursuing my BA in Exercise Science / Physical Therapy at Texas State.  I’m also on the Texas State Lifting Team. FitnessLab CrossFit is a special place.  We have general CrossFit classes, CrossFit Competitor classes and Olympic Weightlifting classes.  I am thrilled that I get to develop the competitor series of programming and share the things that I’ve learned as a competitor.  I’m also able to develop my passion for OLY lifting. DIANE PRITCHARD

My athletic career began as a High School Varsity Soccer player, which carried over to Intramurals at Florida State while in college.  After graduating and beginning my career as a teacher I knew it was time to step up my fitness.  After seeing my mom get great results doing CrossFit I started my journey at CrossFit North Atlanta in 2011. CrossFit has truly changed my life in ways I never thought possible.  Clean eating, Olympic Lifting, and the dreaded “Fran” were all things I never thought would make me into the athlete I am today.  I’m excited to be a part of the FitnessLab CrossFit family and I’m excited to represent our box at team competitions in Central Texas.   Favorite WOD – Grace Favorite Lift – Cleans and Overhead Squats Least Favorite WOD – Diane (oh the irony) Least Favorite Lift – Thruster QUALIFICATIONS: CrossFit Level One Certification Adult/Infant CPR & AED... read more

KALEIGH NEWMAN

I started CrossFit in 2012 and immediately fell in love with the competitive atmosphere and the daily challenges that CrossFit offers. I had always considered myself to be in pretty good shape, competing in triathlons and many other endurance events, however, after completing my first WOD I was quickly humbled. I realized that even though I had really good endurance, I was greatly lacking fitness in many other areas. I graduated from Texas State in 2013 with a degree in Exercise and Sports Science. Along with coaching at FitnessLab CrossFit, I am also coaching cross country at St. Peter and Paul and work as a gait analysis/shoe specialist at U-Run.  I love coaching others to help them achieve their fitness goals! I tried CrossFit in 2012 for the first time before we moved to New Braunfels.  I loved it right away.  It brought back memories of training in the ‘glory days’ for this aging athlete.  Due to a hectic work and travel schedule I drifted in and out of the box for a couple of months before I decided that it was something I had to commit to if I wanted to realize the full benefit of training under this methodology.  I chose not to commit.  I regretted that decision for quite some time.  Once exposed to CrossFit, ‘traditional’ training methods no longer satisfied me. My wife Shayna and I opened FitnessLab in October of 2013.  I knew right away that CrossFit was something we should introduce to our growing base of members.  I believe wholeheartedly that anyone and everyone can benefit from CrossFit training.  I reached out to coach Burke and we began to formulate a plan for launching FitnessLab CrossFit.  I took the CrossFit Level One Certification course/exam and we were affiliated in December 2013 – opening our doors as FitnessLab CrossFit on January 1, 2014. My goal is to continue to bring the very best programming, coaching and training experience to the residents of San Marcos and surrounding communities.  We have taken a gathering of like-minded individuals and created a CrossFit family like no other.  We are proud of what we’ve built.  We would love for you to be a part of what we’re building.  Every member has a name.  Every name has a story.  Every story matters. Burke David

Coaching since 2008, after getting into CrossFit in 2006 because I was out of shape after life and jobs got in the way. My athletic background is wide and varied but I spent a fair bit of time as an Elite Level Rugby player (Former US Eagle Jr Pool Player) and I spent 6 years as a Cat 1/2 Cyclist which allowed me to compete in the 2000 Olympic Trials. However, my athletic endeavors have had a downside which includes 9 Knee surgeries on my right knee and 3 shoulder surgeries, so I have a bit of experience on how to come back from extended lay-offs. My athletic goals are to get a lot stronger, run Tough Mudder, Spartan Race, Go-Ruck and to begin racing my bike again this year. My longer term goal is to qualify for the American Open as a Masters Lifter within the next 3-years. My goals with Fitness Lab CrossFit is to take my clients to the next level in their fitness, nutrition and CrossFit lifestyle and to help make Fitness Lab CrossFit one of the premier Strength and Conditioning facilities in the nation.
